My Five Things Friday posts are so fun because I get to share new, fun things that I love with my readers! Thanks Clare for hosting this link-up! This week we are mixing it up a little with:
Pins I Loved (including my first DIY project. I don’t DIY, but I did it and it turned out GREAT!)
Links I Loved
Food Products I am loving
Beauty Products I am loving (what? beauty stuff on a healthy living blog?)
Big bloggers/authors that I love and who inspire me
Pins I Loved this Week:
DIY Faux Wood photo backdrop - When I posted a picture of my DIY faux wood backdrops on Instagram this week, everyone wanted to know how I made the them! I pinned this tutorial a few weeks ago and finally got around to my DIY project over the long July 4th weekend. They turned out great but I highly recommend making a test board first to determine how much paint/what colors to use and how much wood you want to show underneath the color. The handle of the paintbrush also comes in handy to made the beveled edge of the boards. (if that does not make sense, click on the link above and it will take you to the pin).
Lisa Leonard State of My Heart Necklace - You guys know how much I love Lisa Leonard’s jewelry and the State of My Heart necklace is on my list of must haves before my next blogging conference so it will be easy to tell I live in Texas!
Grilled Steak Summer Chopped Salad - love all of the colorful ingredients and fresh flavors in this salad! Can’t wait to try it at home.
Bailey’s Salted Caramel Chocolate Pie - My husband is a huge fan of Bailey’s and all things salted caramel so I can’t wait to whip up this easy chocolate pie for him soon. I would love to use a pretzel crust instead of chocolate graham cracker, so I guess I will be searching Pinterest for that next!
Root beer float Popsicles - Over the weekend, I took my daughter to an old-fashioned soda fountain for a real root beer float. She has been asking to make them at home so maybe we will make these Popsicles this weekend to satisfy her craving!
Links I Loved this Week:
Saturday Morning With Kids vs. Without Kids - I lie. I did not love this link at all, I actually thought it was really mean. But that is because I have kids and I miss what Saturday mornings used to look like before I had kids. Did I mention this is why I started running at dawn 0′clock on Saturday, to get away from the chaos of kids?
The One Routine Guaranteed to Make You Beautiful - Glennon Melton of Momastery compares the natural beauty of her makeup-free selfie with her professional headshot, with humor and humility.
Blogging: How Much Are You Worth? - Lindsay at Running with Tongs breaks down her pay by the hour for a potential blogging opportunity. MUST READ for all bloggers out there who are starting to work with brands.
The $100 Allowance - I would love to do this but then I would probably just cave in and just buy my kids more stuff anyway which would not be as effective.
Never Skip Lunch – From the Scary Mommy blog, although I did not figure out until over halfway through the post that it was not a mommy writing it but a daddy. Still it was funny…
New Products I am Loving:
FiberLove Bar - A few weeks ago, I received a box of FiberLove bars in 10 assorted flavors to sample. I will admit that I was skeptical at first, because a “fiber” bar does not sound very appetizing. So I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted the first bar and it was really good! (Even my husband approved of the bars he tried). They are the first Non-GMO Project verified fiber bar on the market and you can see the ingredients and nutrition facts of each bar on their website. You can also search for a store near you, locally in Dallas you can find them at Whole Foods, Central Market and The Vitamin Shoppe.
Honest Lemonades - As a fan of Honest Tea, I was excited to hear about their new line of lemonades! Available now at Whole Foods, the new lemonades are organic and contain 25% less calories and sugar. My daughter and I are already huge fans of the mango lemonade and I want to try berry hibiscus next. (I am hosting an Honest Lemonade GIVEAWAY at the end of this post!!!)*
NuNaturals sweeteners - For the past few years, I have used NuNatural products as sweeteners in my coffee, Greek yogurt and baking. Recently I received some samples of their newest products, including NuStevia Cocoa Syrup and NuStevia simple syrup. I am already thinking about mixing up some frozen cocktails with Honest Mango Lemonade, vodka and NuStevia simple syrup! (I am also hosting a NuNaturals GIVEAWAY at the end of this post!!!)*
Red Gold tomatoes - Red Gold is hosting their Red Gold Summer Grillin’ Party on their Facebook page through July 23rd. Red Gold will hold weekly drawings for 1,000 aprons and the grand prize is a Big Green Egg Grill and Red Gold Grilling kit. They recently me an apron and Red Gold Grilling kit, so this weekend we are grilling these spicy tomato burgers! And to cool off I will be sipping on a frozen vodka Mango Lemonades with the burgers!

Garnier 5 second blur instant smoother - I am still undecided on this product. It does minimize the appearance of my pores and evens out my skin tone but I am not in love with how it feels on my skin. It makes my face feel slippery and I worry that my makeup will “slide” off during the day because of it. It may be better under a powder foundation but I wear a liquid one (see below).
bareMinerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Skin Foundation and bareMinerals Perfecting Face Brush - During our vacation in Florida, I splurged on this brand new liquid foundation from bareMinerals. The saleslady stressed the importance of purchasing the brush to go with it and I am soooo glad I listened to her. I LOVE the look of this foundation, almost like an air-brush look and it feels very light on my skin. If you are going to splurge, I would splurge on this.
Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil - Yes, I use this on my face. Yes, you can also use it on your hair. You can even use it on your nails. It is the only products that has cleared the flaky, dry patches on my face and it makes my skin feel so soft. I even wear it under my makeup and it does not make my face oily.
Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner - Since I left my Stila smudge pot in Savannah, I was in desperate need of a new black eyeliner. Liquid liners can be tricky so I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this new liner from Benefit. It is easy to apply, stays true black, does not smear or smudge and it lasted all day. You do need the remover to get it off (my regular eye makeup remover got about 50% of it off) but so far I like it. Looking forward to a date night so I can try more of a cat eye look!
Benefit the Pore Professional - This is also a recent purchase and I am still deciding if I like it. I use it as a setting powder and also for touch ups after my lunchtime workouts. I really like the look when I first put it on in the morning, but not as happy with the touch up during the day (maybe I need to reapply foundation after my sweat fests). The best part is it comes with a built-in brush and a screw top cap that opens/closes the powder so you can carry it with you in your bag without spilling! The morning I used it with the Garnier 5 second blur, I did like the look of my finished face. I think I need more time with this one…
Big Bloggers (and authors) I Love for Many Different Reasons:
Joy the Baker – A quirky, adorable self-taught baker, I found Joy when I was searching for a sweet potato pie recipe to make for Thanksgiving. Her dad taught her how to make a mean sweet potato pie and the recipe is now included in her cookbook. We met in Seattle at BlogHerFood 2012 and I have a signed copy of her cookbook. She recently moved from California to New Orleans and writes about discovering the foodie side of the city. Blog: JoytheBaker.com Book: Joy the Baker Cookbook
Shauna Niequist – she takes the words out of my mouth and puts them down on paper, I want to be invited over to her house for brunch or dinner one day. We also met at Hope Spoken in 2014. LOVE all of her books and I want to grow up to be a writer just like Shauna. Blog: ShaunaNiequist.com Book(s): Cold Tangerines, Bittersweet, Bread and Wine
Kelle Hampton – last weekend Trey found me in tears while reading the prologue to her book (which I will admit is a birth story and how can you not cry at a birth story!). Funny that I found her through her photography first, which I adore and admire. Blog: KelleHampton.com Book: Bloom
Jen Hatmaker - she is freakin’ hilarious, says what is on her mind, and LOVED by so many other moms. She lives in Austin, has 4 kids, 2 of them are adopted, her husband is Harley-riding pastor, they just filmed a renovation/reality show that airs on HGTV on Aug 7th. Warning: Do not read her books unless you want to be inspired to change your life. Blog: JenHatmaker.com Book(s): 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess , Interrupted
Glennon Melton – I started following Glennon more recently than these other bloggers, say in the last 6 months. Cautiously reading about her story of a recovering alcoholic and bulimic, who writes about how life is beautiful and brutal and comes together as brutiful. From watching her Ted talk, she is inspiring and intriguing but I am getting to know her slowly. Blog: Momastery.com/blog Book: Carry on Warrior
