KLUTCHclub Review

by Stephanie on January 11, 2013

Every day when I get home from work, one of the first things I do is ask my husband if he has checked the mail.  After 8 1/2 years of marriage, he still does not understand why I get excited to check the mail.  I have tried to tell him it is all about anticipation.  Maybe something fun was delivered, like a new issue of Shape, Fitness, Oxygen or Cooking Light.  Or it could be something unexpected, like when my mom randomly sends new clothes for the kids or my grandmother sends me a card.

Earlier this week I asked him again if he had checked the mail and he teased me that there was going to be nothing fun for me, just boring stuff like bills.  Then I opened up the mailbox and saw my very first KLUTCHclub box sitting there, waiting for me to discover all of the goodies inside.  My 6-year-old daughter helped me carry the mail inside, eager for me to open it – just in case there was something fun for her inside! (Good to know she takes after me in the easily excited category)!

I had never heard of KLUTCHclub until they contacted me by email a few months ago and wanted to know if I would like to sample one of their boxes.  KLUTCHclub is a mail order subscription service that allows you to sample nutrition, beverage, supplement, skin care and fitness products from brands with which you may not be familiar.  The boxes cost $16-18 a month and all the products are centered around the theme of health, wellness and fitness. Basically, you get the inside scoop on what new products are hitting the market so you can sample them before you buy.

My box was a New Year’s Resolution box, which included a handy reference guide to all of the products and why it was chosen to be included by KLUTCHclub.  Two of the products that immediately caught my eye were the Moroccan oil/Keratin shampoo and conditioner and the Honey & Almond butter.  My daughter grabbed the Funky Monkey snacks and started to eat them before I even took a picture (which is like breaking the Golden Rule in the blog world).  The first rule of food blogging is: always take a picture of your food before you eat! I still managed to get the bag in the picture, but if you look closely you can tell she tore it open.

I have yet to try all the products but I am looking forward to trying most of the food and snacks over the weekend.  The one product I am unsure about is the laundry detergent.  I hope it is easier to use than it looks, because it kind of reminded me of test tubes from a medical laboratory.  This is definitely a product I need to sample before I would ever buy it on my own.  I also plan to try out the kinesiology tape on my shoulder when I race in a few weeks.

One of my favorite things about KLUTCHclub is the subscriptions which range from one, three and 12 month options.  The only long-term commitment I am in right now is my marriage and I don’t like being tied down to a year-long mail-order subscription in case it doesn’t work out.  I think a one or three-month subscription would make a great gift for that friend or family member who has finally decided that they are going to get serious about their health and fitness this year (there are men and women themed boxes) or you can just order a box for yourself.  Trust me, it will make your daily trip to the mailbox more exciting if you know your KLUTCHclub box is arriving soon!

Don’t just take my word for it, check out these reviews in Glamour and Shape magazines.

Have you ever tried Birchbox? I thought about trying them too, mainly because I am beauty product challenged. Seriously, my husband even suggested I get a make-up makover but I don’t even know where to start!

I tried Birchbox for a few months. It’s only $10, but I personally thought it lacked good quality products. Go to a Chanel counter or another brand at a department store and ask them to put some new products on you. You’re never obligated to buy. If you go during the week when they’re not busy they’re more than willing. Stacie xo
